It was back in 1924 when tailor Hugo Ferdinand Boss started his clothing company in Metzingen, a small town at the south of Stuttgart in Germany. In 1930 due to the economic climate in Germany, Boss was forced into bankruptcy. Undeterred, Hugo Boss set up a new business. In 1933 Boss business began to prosper as he became an RZM-licensed supplier of uniforms to several Nazi Party organizations.
With the defeat of Germany in 1945, Hugo Boss was charged with being sympathetic to the Nazi cause and he was ordered to pay a fine. He died in 1948 but his business survived and in 1953 the business turned its hand to making suits.
